Notes on Patrick (1839) and Margaret Shevlin Family

Patrick was born September 14 1839 (possibly 1838) in Greene County, New York.  He was a machinist, boiler maker, and one time saloon keeper.

He married Margaret Gillen, born March 3,1848 in Rondout or Port Ewen, New York.  She was the daughter of Patrick and Ellen Gillen, both born in Ireland. Their children were baptized at St. Mary's Church in Roundout, Kingston, New York.   

The family moved to Brooklyn about November,1885 where Margaret died five months later on April 7, 1886.  Margaret's mother Ellen Gillen died on November 15th of the same year.   Both woman died at 192 Hudson Avenue, which may have been their residence.  Patrick died in Brooklyn, New York on December 14, 1891. 

Patrick, Margaret, and Ellen are buried St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rondout, Kingston , New York .   

James W. Shevlin died in Brooklyn on April 26, 1893 at age 19.  He was a boilermaker.  His last address was 48 Henry Street, a three family house in which he lived on the third floor.  His name is carved on the tombstone of his parents in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rondout, Kingston, New York.  

In various records, Ellen Gillen is referred to as Helen.
